If you ask me, I’d say it’s a good thing that the New York Yankees are not going to make the playoffs this year.
I know some might view a Yankees-less postseason as a sure sign of the Apocalypse, but that would be incorrect, since a White Sox-Cubs World Series would surely indicate an impending visit from the Four Horseman. But I digress.
If I had a ticket to the final game at Yankee Stadium, a small part of me would feel as if the worth was devalued if the Yankees had a home playoff game scheduled two days later.
Think about it: Wouldn’t you be a bit upset if you spent hundreds, if not thousands, on a ticket to the final game, only to realize it technically wouldn’t be the last game played on that field?
Don’t get me wrong, it would be worth the price of admission just to see what management has in mind for the closing festivities, but I would be a bit put off knowing that everything was for show. Because once the last home playoff game was played, that game becomes the official Final Game at Yankee Stadium.
So be thankful Yankees fans. In a season where not much was expected out of your team, it’s actually a blessing in disguise. You’ll get your fair share of media coverage around the final game without some smartass reporter putting a giant asterisk on the festivities.
And besides, it wouldn’t be worth bragging to your friends that you attended the second-to-last game at Yankee Stadium, would it?
